At the European ITS Congress in Seville, TN-ITS to showcased its contributions to mobility data standardization and its vision for the future of resilient and efficient transport systems. Across several sessions, TN-ITS experts engaged with stakeholders to discuss the transformative role of its  RTTI Delegated regulation 2022/670 reference data standard in  the digital map community and its customers.

Alignment and Harmonisation of Data Standards

Session SIS 26: Alignment & Harmonisation of Data Standards: The NAPCORE Project (Tuesday, 20 May, 11:45 AM – 12:45 PM)

Organized by Sylvain Belloche of Cerema, WG4 (aligning data astandards) lead of NAPCORE, this session brought together key players in the mobility data standards ecosystem, including representatives from TN-ITS, DATEX II, Transmodel, and the new mobilityDCAT-AP standard. The NAPCORE Data Exchange Standard working group presented its roadmap, developed in 2024, which outlines actionable steps for harmonizing these standards.

Stephen T’Siobbel, TN-ITS expert, highlighted the ERTICO innovation platform’s role in improving traffic management by providing reliable, timely delivered data on traffic circulation plans and speed limit changes. By sharing practical implementation support, TN-ITS empowers cities to bridge the gap between national and local levels, ensuring effective use of National Access Points (NAPs) for seamless data exchange in line with the revised (EU) Delegated Regulation 2022/670.

Unlocking the Future of European Mobility Data

Session SIS 5: Unlocking the Future of European Mobility Data: Enablers and Multimodal Use Cases (Tuesday, 16:45 – 17:45 PM)

This session, moderated by Timo Hoffman, explored the role of NAPs and European Mobility Data Spaces (EMDS) in fostering collaboration among Public Transport Authorities (PTAs), operators, and service providers. Discussions revolved around the importance of high-quality open data and the facilitation of value-added data sharing through EMDS.

Speakers highlighted how initiatives like NAPCORE and community-led governance by organizations such as MobilityData are setting the foundation for inclusive and adaptable digital solutions. The integration of Transmodel standards NeTEx and SIRI was emphasized as a key enabler for multimodal mobility.

Building Happy Cities with EU Data Standards

Session SIS 63: Happy Cities Based on EU Data Standards (Wednesday, 21 May, 11:45 AM – 12:45 PM)

Cities increasingly rely on data-driven policies to manage urban mobility and remain vibrant and safe. During this session, Christian Kleine, TN-ITS president, emphasized TN-ITS’s contributions in enabling cities to effectively manage traffic through data sharing. He also discussed the practical support provided by the TN-ITS association to help cities adopt and implement digital map data standards.

Laura Babío Somoza from POLIS noted that while NAPs act as centralized access to data hubs, better coordination between national and local levels is crucial. She called for increased training opportunities and resources to empower cities to leverage standards effectively. Speakers agreed on the transformative potential of standardized data formats for seamless multimodal journeys and achieving urban sustainability goals.

Christian also noted that TN-ITS supports cities by improving traffic management through the sharing of traffic circulation plans, speed limit changes, and other critical data. The panel stressed the importance of collaboration and providing practical tools to make standards adoption straightforward; and underscored the value of reliable data in addressing issues like traffic congestion and fatalities, paving the way for smarter urban mobility solutions.

Cycling, Urban Vehicle Access Regulations, and TN-ITS’s Potential

Session SIS 72: Cycling, UVAR, IDI, TCP, and the Potential Role of TN-ITS for Data Exchange (Wednesday, 21 May, 15:15 – 16:15 PM)

As resilient and safe mobility evolves, TN-ITS continues to expand its focus on emerging use cases such as cycling and urban vehicle access regulations (UVAR). This session highlighted TN-ITS’s role in enabling standardized high-definition map data exchanges and supporting smart applications through advanced digital mapping solutions.

Frank Daems, TN-ITS coordinator and NAPCORE SWG 4.2 lead, and Prisca Numbisi from ERTICO, alongside Christos Panayiotou from the KIOS CoE, explored the integration of new attributes for cycling and urban transport within TN-ITS. They stressed the importance of collaboration across communities and the need for cities to adopt practical standards that translate into measurable impacts, such as reducing traffic congestion and fatalities.

The discussions at the European ITS Congress underscored TN-ITS’s role in advancing mobility data standards and fostering collaboration among diverse stakeholders. By addressing the needs of road authorities, cities, engaging with emerging technologies like 3D mobility solutions, and focusing on real-time data integration, TN-ITS is not just shaping the future of data exchange but also empowering all road authorities to create smarter, more sustainable, and connected mobility ecosystems.

ERTICO – ITS Europe continues to host the TN-ITS multistakeholder innovation platform, with members representing >90% of worlds business in digital maps. TN-ITS is the reference data exchange for static map related attributes such as speed limits, set out in the RTTI Delegated regulation 2022-670, fully compatible with service providers’ map production process.
