Global NCAP seminar

9th May 2017, London

On May 9 the TN-ITS president, Stephen T’Siobbel, was invited to a Global NCAP seminar in London on Advancing Speed Assistance Systems in cars. The new NCAP assessment protocol will be applied in 2018 whereby cars will score extra points if they have an onboard, frequently updated map with speed limits including relevant restrictions (vehicle type, weather, etc.). Extrapolating the new protocol globally in 2018 may present challenges as national issues and local requirements are taken into consideration.

The role of TN-ITS in the maintenance of speed limit information in digital maps was discussed. Mr T’Siobbel presented TN-ITS slides showing the complexity of sources used to maintain the map databases.
